Our Business

As stated on our main page, Engelstad Woodworks is an independent custom woodworking facility that tailors its project to your specifications. Although we are not a production facility we do fabricate several furniture pieces that are for sale at various locations throughout the province. To us production means assembly line production with several employees, machines etc. We are a 1-3 man operation building, assembling and finishing each furniture piece or project one at a time. We feel that if the same tradesman sees a project through from start to finish it will be of extreme quality. We fabricate from solid stock hardwood/softwood lumber and hardwood/softwood plywood. We do not implement the use of particle board in our projects or furniture. We do use on occasion MDO and MDF. We build most of our projects from Red Oak and Pine. Several other common wood species such as Ash, Birch, Cedar, Cherry, Maple, Oak (White), Pine, Teak and Walnut are readily available to us at your request. On occasion we do use smaller amounts of exotic hardwoods such as, Blackheart, Bubinga, Ebony, Purpleheart and Rosewood for inlays and jewelry boxes.

Some of the project that we have completed in the past have been cedar lawn furniture, Curio Cabinets, Gun Cases, Vanities, Bar Stools, Games Tables, Cocktail Tables, Shaker Clocks, Computer Desks, Mail Boxes, Toy Boxes, Shelving, Bookcases, Custom Plaques and Trophy Bases, Blanket Chests, Display Case, Built-in Cabinets, Custom Kitchen Cabinets, Kitchen Islands, Microwave Stands, Free Standing Cabinets, Boots/Shoe Racks, Deacons Benches, Wall Units, Fireplace Mantles and Surrounds, Custom Signage etc.
We try to photograph most of our project but it is not always possible. We have linked our Project Photos directly off our main page allowing viewers easy access with minimal surfing.

We provide several types of finishes to our project. We do believe that a Danish oil and lacquer is pleasing to almost everyone. We do apply various stains, waxes and polyurethane's to projects at the customers request.

We assemble our projects with true craftsmanship using various old world wood joinery techniques such as mortise and tennon, finger joints, dovetails etc. We also implement the use of new age technology wood joinery such as biscuit joinery, splined dowels etc. We use metal fasteners in such places where extreme stress may be implemented to the project piece. Our adhesives are of a high quality PVA wood glue, and polyurethane adhesives such as ExcelOne, which is provided to us by the Ambel Corporation Cottonport, Louisiana. You can find out more about polyurethane adhesives by following our Favorite Links page. There you will find links directly to The Ambel Corporation, and an article written by a fellow woodworker, C.E.(Chuck) Ring, titled "An Observation On Polyurethane Adhesives."

The main objective of  our business is to provide our clients with a high quality product that meets there expectations and will last for generations.
